FAQ

Once you have submitted your request, a Yacht Consultant will take it on. This expert will send you a quote of options from which you can choose. Each quote will include the different yachts and destinations that best suit your needs, and the reasons why they have been selected for you. If you wish to proceed to the next stage, your consultant will then book the selected yacht and send you all the cruising information, including port instructions and any other important information. This consultant will be your contact for any further questions about your cruise. As soon as your request is sent, he or she becomes your sole contact and remains at your disposal 7 days a week (if he or she is absent, another expert will take charge of your file). If possible, he or she will also meet you at the port to ensure that everything goes according to plan on the ground.

Once you have decided to proceed with the booking of the cruise, we will give you a contract. This is probably one of 2 standard contracts in the world. The most common is the Charter Yacht Broker Association (CYBA) contract, and the World Yachting Association (MYBA) contract, both of which are approved by leading maritime lawyers. These contracts have evolved over the last 20 years and are now considered the reliable industry standard.

What is and is not included in your charter rate varies from yacht to yacht and you may have to pay the following in addition to the set charter rate:

  • APA - The APA or Advanced Provisioning Allowance represents operating expenses, while on board, including but not limited to: fuel, docking fees, customs fees and food and beverages.
  • shipping/supply agent fees
  • Local taxes
  • delivery charges

Your broker will be able to advise you on any additional costs during the charter yacht selection process.

You will be informed of the space available in the ship you have chosen. As a general rule, there will be one dressing room per cabin and storage lockers for suitcases. If you are carrying golf clubs or water sports equipment, these can be stored in the garage if the ship has them. For your valuables, there are safes provided.

In most cases, you will be required to pay (by bank transfer) a deposit of 50% of the total rental amount when you sign the rental agreement. The remaining 50% of the rental fee plus APA and all applicable taxes, delivery charges and security deposit are due one month before the start of your rental.

Culinary excellence is part of every charter and your yacht's chef will personalise this. Prior to your charter, we will ask you to complete an information sheet indicating your preferences or any special dietary requirements, drinks, newspapers, flowers or other special requests. Details of medical conditions, allergies and special occasions may be noted. We encourage you to disclose as much information as possible to give the crew a detailed understanding before boarding.

It is common on most yachts for small amounts of personal laundry to be done by the yacht's crew as a service. Please note that these conditions also allow the crew to politely decline to do excessive amounts of laundry on board or to handle particularly delicate items. It may be possible to have some laundry done professionally ashore if time permits, the cost of which will be deducted from the APA.

If your cruise was everything you hoped it would be, by all means show your appreciation with a gratuity. However, please note that although crew gratuities are customary, they are left to your sole discretion. As a guideline, we suggest that between 10% and 20% of the charter fee be split equally between the crew depending on the level of service.

In most cases, smoking is not permitted inside the yacht for safety reasons. Many yachts have a policy of allowing smoking on deck only, however, please check the policy as each yacht varies in its approach to smoking on board.

Every passenger on board a yacht must have their passport on board at all times. Most professional luxury yachts are commercially registered vessels, just like getting on a plane, your passport is required. Make sure you and all your guests have their passports with them when preparing your yacht charter, otherwise your captain may have to refuse entry to the vessel.
